PRESTON COMMUNITY GARDEN BY-LAWS

Article I:

This mission of Preston Community Garden is promote a better quality of life by providing a safe and peaceful place where people of all ages can connect through cultivating.

Our vision is to ensure that the great people of East St. Louis have access to fresh produce while strengthening relationships with others in the community.

​

Article II:

The garden is open Tuesday - Saturday from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and will be locked overnight.

The garden will operate May through October (as long as weather permits) 

​

Article III:

The garden is all-inclusive and welcomes everyone of all ages.

​

Article IV

The fee for adult plot is $25 per year.

​

All plots are maintained by members of Preston Community Garden.

​

Plots are assigned by a "first come first base" policy

​

If plot is neglected or abandoned, plot will be re-assigned with no refund.

​

Everyone must adhere to organic growing practices; therefore, chemical pesticides and herbicides are prohibited.

​

Members shall not remove any plants or produce from another member's plot without the permission of the plot holder.

​

Pets are not allowed in the garden.

​

Be mindful of conserving water, shut off after use.

​

Alcohol, tobacco use, vaping, or smoking are prohibited and not allowed within 200 feet of garden.

​

All members are expected to behave in a respectful and courteous manner toward other members.

​

Members to participate in fall clean up.

​

Dues are payable annually and non-refundable. 

​

Amount of dues are reviewed annually by the Board of Directors, may increase due to costs to maintain garden but will work diligently to obtain grants and donations to keep memberships as low as possible. 

​

Memberships are non-transferrable.

​

Tools are communal and not to be taken from the garden.

​

No firearms.

​

Growing cannabis or illegal substances is prohibited.

​

If you will be away for a long period of time, inform a representative of PCG and ensure that another member will tend your plot in your absence.

​

All members are required to sign a liability waiver. Members, their families, friends, and other guests may participate at their own risk.  No liability of any kind will be taken on by the Preston Community Garden and will not be responsible for injury, theft, or accidents occurring in the garden.

Article V

The fee for the children's plot is $10 per year.

​

Only children between the ages of 5 and 12 will be permitted to the partake in the children's garden.

​

All children to be accompanied and fully supervised by an adult.

​

Adult members are welcome to bring their children, we encourage learning but must be closely supervised. Only children with a membership can use the plots in the children's garden.

​

In order for a child to partake in the garden, a liability waiver must be signed by the child's parent or guardian.
